This volume is generally a holiday mixtape about how the season is going to be different this year, and how it is still Christmas, and can still be good and meaningful and connected and warm.

This volume is about the joy and love of the season and the real challenges and pain and loneliness of this year. This has songs that make me cry sad tears and songs that make me cry happy tears.

What a time to be alive.
This is a zany Christmas-themed ride through the depths and whirls of my musical taste. 2020 has been strange. One of the SNL skits I really enjoyed this year was based on the premise that a group of friends went to a fortune teller in 2019 and she had kooky things to say about 2020, like that we would be arguing about how to wash a bag of chips. So this is your chip-bag-washing Christmas playlist. I love it. You may not :)

I can’t believe this year you’ve got me through.
This is about relationships and how they can make the season bright and help us tolerate all the shit. By relationships I mean friends, family (chosen and/or maintained), romance, community. Skip this volume if you don’t want to hear love songs because they feature heavily (though not exclusively, and most of them work as songs about/to your cat, too, frankly).
Vol. 5
Turn on the lights and sing your way home.
I made this volume imagining that most of us are not going to be having the holiday we want and that many of us will be away from loved ones and traditions that we will miss. This is a playlist about how Christmas magic can transport us to where we want to be, even if only mentally/spiritually. I envision it playing across a montage of Zoom calls, outdoor masked gift exchanges, and various adapted rituals and new traditions.
